Briar Rose tells a story about a woman by the name of Rebecca, who has heard stories from her grandmother, Gemma, ever since she was little about Briar Rose. She gave a promise to her grandmother that takes her on a remarkable journey to figure out the truth about Briar Rose. This book, also known as the tale of Sleeping Beauty of the Holocaust , tells a memoir about a love story during the Holocaust. This book is a mystery. It’s written so well and the story is brilliant. A highly recommended read.

This book is about a teenager named Holden Caulfield and what happens to him over a period of four or five days before his Christmas Vacation. Holden leaves his school he hates and just spends a few nights by himself in New York City. Holden tells the story as a Monologue. Although it doesn’t seem like much from the plot, this book is easy to get into, but a bit difficult to read. The events that happen in this book are sure to capture the reader’s interest. There really isn’t much more to say about the book, otherwise, I’d give it away. You’ll have to find out what the book is really about for yourself.

At Ocean Beach in San Diego, skateboarder Andy Ramos, is an aspiring teen trumpeter who longs to make it big in the music business. Over the summer of his teenage years, he comes in contact with his old childhood embarrassment of a friend, Glory Martinez, who has matured into a normal, softball player. The two become dependent on each other to make it to the top, and uncover some mysterious things about love, the town, and a man by the name of Max Lucero, who tells Andy that he’ll make him big by buying Andy’s soul. This book has music, beautiful description, and idiomatic Spanglish dialogue. Being my favorite book, I recommend this more than any other.

Music

This album is one of the best albums I have ever heard. Coldplay composes all of their own music and writes all their own lyrics, so if you listen to this album, you can tell how much heart and soul they put into their work. They start off with an upbeat track and continue to follow that energy; slowing down in each song, then picking it back up, so it seems like there are more tracks than there actually are. As expected, this album has topped the charts for good reason. If you have yet to check this album out, it is highly recommended that you do so soon, for it is one of the best albums out right now, in my opinion.

Although it doesn’t compare much to their old hits, Over My Head and How to Save a Life, The Fray’s new album is a great album. The CD has great songs that are composed and sung together in a beautiful melodic harmony. The lyrics are written very well and the album keeps roughly the same amount of energy throughout the album. Two songs that should be checked out include, Happiness and Absolute. Overall, the album was all right, but doesn’t compare to their débuted album.

Just recently signed to Columbia Records, this band is an upcoming band that fits into the electronic genre. Lead singer Michael Angelakos created all the beats and lyrics himself. This album is upbeat and easy to dance to, but it’s also slow enough so that you could relax to the tracks. The album is inexpensive and is the type of album that seems to grow on you, or at least for me it does. If your looking for something different, but good, you should check this out!

Movies

Also the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Henry Selick uses the stop-motion technique to bring the movie and all it’s characters to life, with visual effects and emotional morals, including the classic moral, be careful what you wish for. This story is about a child, Coraline, who moves into the Pink Palace, an old, discombobulated boarding house. Coraline explores the house, since her parents have found no time for her and comes upon a mysterious door that takes her into another world, which teaches here that there’s no place like home… Both the scenery and the characters in this movie are enjoyable and although a bit eerie, this movie is a great family film.

Taking place in England, Charles (played by Hugh Grant), is a bachelor with a colorful romantic background that ends up meeting the girl of his dreams, Carrie (Andie MacDowell), at one of his friends’ wedding. The two come together, but since Carrie had to leave the very next morning to America, Charles feels that his hopes of finding love are lost. At other people’s weddings, the two come across each other, but someone else always takes one of them. As time goes on, Charles wonders if he will ever find true love and get married, just as his friends have already. A beautiful, but R-rated movie, director Mike Newell tells a great story about true love.

This movie is one of my favorites that is both romantic and mysterious. Directed by Neil Burger, the story looks at an illusionist (Edward Norton), who is in a world where nothing is really as it appears. He falls in love with a woman (Jessica Biel), and becomes a part of a mysterious story of magic, romance, and even politics. Although a bit long, it doesn’t feel like so, and is overall an amazing movie (and I’m not just saying that because it’s my favorite)!

Television Shows

This show isn’t just a show for people who like hip-hop/rap. It’s a reality competition, creating by American Idol judge Randy Jackson, which brings together roughly eight or nine dance crews of all genres to compete for the title of America’s Best Dance Crew. From steppers to cloggers, this show always has something new and different and the crews come harder and harder each season. Unlike other reality shows, this never gets old!

In the heart of Cincinnati, there is a high school, SCPA, where kids have to audition to get in. The school aims to get their students to improve their artistic talents so that when the time comes in the future, they can prove that they have what it takes to make it big in the entertainment business. This show takes a look inside the school at a few students, and shows their reality and what they go through day by day in order to get to the top: where they want to be.

The game, designed completely in Japanese calligraphy, is about the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu, who in the game takes the form of a wolf. In Nippon, the world in which the story takes place, there is much evil and wrong that causes the color of Nippon to disappear. Your job is to rid the world of the evil beasts that inhabit it and bring the world back to the bright, vibrant place that it once was. Okami is an epic tale that takes the player on a journey of many places and characters, all of which become so addicting that you’ll want to play it over and over again.

The game first takes you to an island, once filled with life. However, once you arrive there, you find that there aren’t many people there and the mystical Mother Tree that once supplied the energy for those who lived there has disappeared and the Harvest Goddess has become locked up inside darkness. It is your job to revive the island of it’s glory by completing tasks which include taking care of animals, making friends with others on the island, and growing crops. You can chose to continue with the story, or start a family and become a successful farmer, or you can also do both! This game is easier to beat than previous Harvest Moon games, but is still fun and enjoyable, just as the others were.
